Client
An Indian Promoter-run mid-sized manufacturing firm supplying Components & sub-systems to the Industrials, Railways & Defence domains.
Mandate
The Client wanted to diversify into manufacturing niche mobility vehicles. They had identified a set of products for a specific target customer set and had developed the products by importing kits from China. They needed support in localising the Supply Chain in India.
The entire Supply Chain Localisation for the selected products was in USPI’s Scope.
The products in consideration for localisation were a Hub Drive Assembly for a low powered application (< 25 kmph) and its corresponding Battery Pack.
Our Engagement
- Mapped the Supplier ecosystem in India for the components in the Hub Drive Assembly.
- Identified Supplier pools based on the combinations of the components – for e.g. Entire Assembly, Motor, Motor + Controller, etc.
- Techno-commercial assessment of the suppliers was done from a Total Cost of Procurement of the Assembly
- Basis a Business Capability assessment of the shortlisted suppliers, the final supplier was selected & onboarded.
- Program Planning & Supplier Development – Mentored and handheld the Supplier through the entire Program up to Serial Production and ensured a smooth transition for the client.
Outcomes Delivered
Alternate Supplier to China has been successfully onboarded at a very marginal price premium compared to the Chinese pricing.
Production Supplies stabilised for the Client to ensure smooth & sustained supply performance thereafter.
This helped the client achieve the ‘Make In India’ target which was mandatory to qualify for supplying the end product to a major Government Program.
